`Dogs win Class 5A playoff,

PECOS, Feb. 25 -- The Midland High Bulldogs rallied from a 10-point
third quarter deficit to defeat the El Paso Eastwood Troopers, 74-62, in
a Region I-5A quarterfinal playoff game at the Pecos High School gym.

The game was the first of two regional boys basketball quarterfinals at
the PHS gym this week. Tonight, the Seminole Indians and the Clint Lions
will meet in a Class 3A matchup starting at 7:30 p.m.

The Troopers had defeated Midland High's crosstown rival, Midland Lee,
in a playoff here on Friday, and appeared ready to do the same thing to
the Bulldogs. Eastwood foiled' Midland's full-court press and led 51-41
when the Bulldogs' sophomore guard Charles Tatum led a 12-2 run that
tied the score at 53-all. Midland then used its height advantage inside
down the stretch to wear down the Troopers, who finished their season at
25-6.

Midland is 30-3 and moves onto the Region I-5A Tournament at Midland
College on Friday.
