PECOS, Jan. 15, 1997 - The Pecos Eagles' will try to get in their games
against Big Spring on Thursday evening, before the next cold front is
scheduled to arrive later that night.
Pecos' varsity and junior varsity games were canceled Tuesday, due to
icy road conditions on Interstate 20 between Odessa and Big Spring. It
was the second time in as many Tuesdays that bad weather has postponed
Pecos' basketball games, after snow delayed the Eagles' Jan. 7 games
against Andrews.
Tuesday's scheduled varsity games with the Steers will be played
Thursday, with the girls starting at 4:30 p.m. and the boys at 6 p.m.,
Pecos-Barstow-Toyah Athletic Director Mike Belew said today. There will
be no JV games Thursday, but JV, varsity and freshman teams are
scheduled to travel to Fort Stockton on Friday night for the Eagles'
regularly scheduled games against the Panthers.
Icing was worse in the Big Spring-Lamesa area than any other part of
the Permian Basin on Tuesday, while Sweetwater's games at San Angelo and
Andrews' games at Fort Stockton went on as scheduled. The Panthers and
Mustangs split, with Andrews' girls winning 58-35, while Fort Stockton's
boys scored a 60-57 victory. Sweetwater swept their games in San Angelo,
as the girls won 47-46 and the boys downed the Chiefs by an 85-51 final
score.
