Marcos Martinez Sr.

Marcos Martinez Sr., 96, of Pecos, died Monday, April 29, 2002, at Reeves County Hospital.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church with Father Miguel Angel Sanchez officiating. Burial will be in Saragosa Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 7, 1905, in Toyahvale, was a lifetime Pecos resident, a retired farmer and a Catholic.

Survivors include one son, Marcos Martinez, Jr. of Pecos; two daughters, Lydia M. Garcia of Albuquerque, N.M., Yolanda Hignojos of Pecos; one sister, Sostena Garcia of California; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clovis Baca

Clovis "Bob" Baca, 78, of Roswell, N.M., died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at Mission Arch Care Center.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 29, at Memory Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Father Larry Schreiber of St. Peter's Catholic Church officiating. Roswell Veterans Honor Guard will provide Military Rites.

He was born May 24, 1923, in Roswell, was a former Barstow resident, who had lived in Roswell for 10 years, was employed as a custodian at the hospital for 20 years and served his country in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Aurora Ybarra Baca of Roswell; four daughters, Amelia Natividad of Dallas, Erlinda Alvarado of Roswell, Teri Horton of Killeen, Rachel Booker of Carlsbad; three sons, Bobby Y. Baca of Roswell, Clovis Baca of Van Horn, Ruben Baca of Pecos; two stepsons, Rolando Ybarra and Camilo Evaro, one step-daughter, Claudia Matta all of Pecos; 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

LaGrone Funeral Chapel and Crematory of Roswell is in charge of arrangements.

Alan Hoefs

Alan Calvin Hoefs, 85, of Pecos, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at the Reeves County Hospital.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 27, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bruce Abbott officiating. Burial will be in Balmorhea Cemetery.

He was born July 10, 1916, was a retired farmer and rancher, a lifelong resident and a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred V. VanDeren Hoefs of Pecos; one daughter, Margaret A. Hoefs Duncan of Breckenridge; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mitchell Hoover

Mitchell Herbert Hoover, 96, of Big Spring, died Monday, April 22, 2002, at Plaza Medical Center in Fort Worth.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, April 26, at First United Methodist Church in Coahoma, Tx., with Rev. Bruce Abbott officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.

He was born Aug. 29, 1905, in Bell County, Tx., had lived in Pecos since 1949, was a retired railroad engineer and was a Methodist.

Survivors include one son, Mitchell M. Hoover and wife Helen of Saginaw, Tx.; one sister, Dorothy Tatum of Abilene; one step-daughter, Peggy Drake of Hobbs, N.M.; one step-son, Jimmy Drake of Arlington; step-daughter-in-law, Caroline Ater of Troup, Tx.; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Services are incomplete for Mitchell Herbert Hoover, 96, who died Monday, April 22, 2002, at Plaza Medical Center Hospital in Fort Worth.

Benjamin True Strong

Benjamin True Strong, 83, of Midland, died on Friday, April 19, 2002, in Midland.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., today, at Midland Bible Church with Reverend Vince Loftis officiating.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, at Evergreen East Cemetery in El Paso.

He was born on Dec. 20, 1918 in Carmi, Illinois and raised in Texas. He was a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in civil engineering. He worked four years with the Texas State Highway Department in the Fort Davis region and from 1946 to 1961 he owned and operated Strong Construction and Engineering in Pecos and Monahans.

He moved to Midland in 2001 and had many interests including flying, electronics and any type of building and creating.

His wife of 59 years, Elsie Carr Strong, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his brother Ralph Strong of Evansville, Ind., and his son, Carr True Strong of Houston.
