Julia Bozeman

Julia May Bozeman, 91, died today, Monday, March 28, 2005.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 2, at the First Presbyterian Church in Pecos.

She was born May 15, 1913, in Grandfalls, was a longtime Pecos resident and a housewife. She and her husband owned, Bozeman’s Drug Store for a number of years. Bozeman was preceded in death by her husband, David Wood Bozeman Jr. and one son, David Wood Bozeman III.

Survivors include one daughter, Jane Herold of Dallas and three grandchildren.

James Drane

James A. Drane, 83, of Midland, Texas, died on Friday, March 18, 2005, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at the Manor Park Chapel in Midland with The Reverend Dr. Mark L. Cannaday, of the Episcopal Church Of The Holy Trinity, officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Columbarium at the Espicopal Church Of The Holy Trinity in Midland.

He was born on July 13, 1921, in Pecos, and grew up in Pecos. Mr. Drane was the son of the late Judge James A. and Jamie Drane, who were a pioneer Pecos family. James received his BA in 1942 from Schreiner College in Kerrville and served during WWII in the United States Army from 1942-1946. He served as the Deputy U.S. District Clerk for the Western District of Texas in Pecos for over 22 years, retiring in 1975. After he retired, he went to Midland in the early 1980's and was a member of Episcopal Church Of The Holy Trinity.

Drane was preceded in death by his father Judge James A. Drane and his mother Jamie W. Drane.

Survivors include five cousins.

Alton Waldrop

Alton M. Waldrop, 68, of Sweetwater, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at his residence at Rolling Plains Hospital in Sweetwater.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 21, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Mark Metzger officiating.

Graveside services were held at 4 p.m., Monday, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia, with Rev. Joseph M. Johnson officiating.

He was born Dec. 24, 1936 in Mason, was a member of the First United Methodist Church, lived in Sweetwater since 1973 coming from Lubbock, was retired after over 30 years of service with All-Tex, Grow-Agri, and Prowl Herbisides as a seed and chemical salesman. He graduated from Pecos High School and attended Texas Tech University for five years.

Waldrop was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Waldrop in 1976 and Loraine Waldrop in 2004.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Waldrop of Sweetwater; one son, Hank Waldrop of Sweetwater; two daughters, Ann Sharp of White Deer, Joy Johnson of Sweetwater and four grandchildren.

Antonio Herrera Jr.

Antonio Herrera Jr., 41, of Pecos, died, Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Services were held at noon, Wednesday, March 9, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Manuel Munoz officiating. Burial was in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 8, 1964, in Pecos, had served in the U.S. Navy and was a Catholic.

Survivors include one son, Anthony Herrera II of Midland; one daughter, Bianca Herrera of Midland; his parents, Tony and Teresa Herrera of Pecos; four sisters, Ysela Herrera of San Diego, Calif., Sandra Gamino of El Paso, Cory Herrera of Santa Monica, Calif. and Erika Herrera of Midland.

Elsie Barton

Elsie Maurine Barton, 91, of Comanche, died Friday, March 4, 2005, in the Hamilton General Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 6, in the Hall and Sons Funeral Home Chapel.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m., Monday, March 7, in Balmorhea.

She was born April 19, 1913, in Abbott, was a retired school teacher having taught in the Balmorhea Independent School District for many years, retiring in 1966. She had been a resident of Comanche for the past four years moving there from Balmorhea and a member of the Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Comanche.

Barton was preceded in death by her first husband, William Shelby Moore, on Oct. 31, 1931; her second husband, Eugene Barton in December 1979 and six siblings. Survivors include one son, Evan Moore of Comanche; one grandson; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Comanche County Consolidated Hospital, 211 South Austin, Comanche, Texas 76442.

Iva Lucas

Iva Ruth Lucas, 78, died on her birthday, Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005. Services were held at Harford First Methodist Church and burial was at Old Town Cemetery, Evergreen , Alabama.

She was a long time Pecos resident and secretary at Crockett High School until she retired.

Lucas was preceded in death by her two daughters, Margie and Bonita.

Survivors include her husband, Orville Lucas of Hanford, Calif.

Bernard Bond

Bernard Bond, 84, of Pecos, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 5, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Manuel Munoz officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

He was born April 12, 1920, in Eagle Pass, was a locksmith, a longtime Pecos resident and a Catholic. He was preceded in death by his parents, D.E. and Lulu Bond; three brothers, Delbert, Hiram and Patrick Bond.

Survivors include three sisters, Virginia Gordon of Weatherford, Pauline Bryan of Harlingen and Edith Fletcher of Pecos.

Mitchell Butts

Mitchell Boisclair Butts, 86, of Kennesaw, Ga., died Wednesday, March 2, 2005. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, March 4, at 1 p.m., at Pine Ridge Memorial Park. Interment will follow.

Butts served on General George S. Patton’s officer staff in France and Germany during World War II. He attended Annapolis Naval Academy and graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in civil engineering. He was the founder and first president of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at MSU. Butts was also a member of the Acworth Chapter of the VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Cleada Norton Butts of Kennesaw, GA; two sons, Stephen Mitchell Butts of Auburn, Wash., Gary Boisclair Butts of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Sallie Butts Nobles of Canton, GA., Rebecca Butts Hill of Acworth, GA.; one sister, Marguerite Butts Hunnicutt of Blythville, AR.; grandchildren, Suzanne Nobles Lonidier, Jeffrey Norton Nobles, Mary Margaret Nobles, Kenneth Lee Levingston, Ryan Mitchell Levingston, Paul David Levingston, Nathan Mitchell Butts and Stephanie Marie Butts and six great-grandchildren.

James Brashear

James Ollin Brashear, 88, of Pecos, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m.,Wednesday, March 2, at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 18, 1916, in Annetta, Tx., was a retired mail carrier, had served in U.S. Army in World War II, was a lifetime resident and a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Rea Brashear of Pecos.

Doris Moore

Doris Hicks Moore, 82, of Richardson, formerly of Pecos, died Thursday, March 3, 2005. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 5, at Atria Richardson.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 7, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Pecos. She was born March 25, 1922, in Markham, was raised in Brenham, by her parents, Roy Jerome Eddie Hicks and Malde Hunter Hicks. She graduated from Sul Ross State University in Alpine and married John M. Moore on July 17, 1942. She was a gifted artist and china painter.

Survivors include her husband John Moore; three sons, Monty Moore of Richardson, Hardin Moore of Allen, Jerry Moore of Friendswood; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Doris Moore’s name to the West of the Pecos Museum, 120 E. First Street, Pecos, Tx. 79772.

Franky Ramsey

Franky Lynn Hadlock Ramsey passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 in Del Rio, TX. Franky’s passing came after an 8-year battle with cancer and related health illnesses. Through out the past 8 years Franky’s strength, driven spirit and positive attitude were unwavering. Her example is inspiration to us all. She was 69 years old.

Franky was born in El Paso, TX on May 4th, 1935 to Evelyn and Frank Hadlock, Jr. Frank Hadlock, Jr. preceded her in death in 1936. She was raised in El Paso by her mother and stepfather Dr. L.O. Dutton. Upon graduation from El Paso High School, she attended Texas Tech University. While a student at Tech she met fellow student William Richard (Bill) Ramsey. They were married on July 5th, 1955 in El Paso, TX. Upon Bill’s graduation from Tech in 1956 they moved to Pecos, TX where Bill began a successful career in Agriculture. Franky’s devotion was raising her family. Melinda Ramsey Ward was born October 15, 1956 in Lubbock, TX and William Scott Ramsey was born September 1, 1959 in Pecos, TX. The Ramsey Family enjoyed the 1960’s life in Pecos where life was simple and families were the focus. Upon their arrival in Pecos they developed life long friendships with other Pecos families who were also embarking on agricultural careers. Many of these families today remain very dear and treasured friends.

Franky was a very gifted and talented artist. Her other interest included Fishing, Painting, Bridge, Ceramics, Tennis, Swimming, Card Playing, Sewing, Quilting, Cross Stitching and Reading. She was also a long time member and active supporter of the First United Methodist Church of Pecos, TX.

Franky’s Father, Step Father and Mother preceded her in death.

Franky is survived by her husband of 49 years William Richard (Bill) Ramsey of Pecos, Daughter, Melinda Ward and husband Jerry Ward of Stephenville, TX, Son, Wm. Scott Ramsey and wife Ellen Ramsey, grandchildren Rachel Ellen Ramsey and Tucker Scott Ramsey of Midland.

A 2:00 p.m. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5th at the First United Methodist Church in Pecos, TX. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be directed to The Franky Lynn Hadlock Ramsey Memorial Fund at the First United Methodist Church, 301 South Elm, Pecos, TX 79772.

Maria Avila

Maria Avila, 45, of Saragosa, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Mass was held at 1 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Saragosa, with burial in Saragosa Cemetery.

She was born March 25, 1960, in Durango, Mexico, was a lifetime Pecos resident, a laborer and a Catholic.

Survivors include her husband, Margarito Avila; her parents, Manuel Rivas and Ignacia Nevarez; four sons, Daniel, Edgar, Jose and Josue Avila of Saragosa; three sisters, Martha Rivas Nevarez, Ester Rivas Nevarez and Consuelo Rivas Nevarez of Mexico. Arnulfo Calderon

Arnulfo “Arnie” Calderon, 82, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at the Veterans Hospital in Big Spring.

Mass was held at noon, Monday, Feb. 28, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Manuel Munoz officiating. Burial was in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born in El Paso, was a lifetime Pecos resident, a retired barber, had served in the United States Army and was a Catholic.

Calderon was preceded in death by one sister, Rachel Parker.

Survivors include his wife, Edith L. Calderon of Pecos; four sons, Ruben and Byron Calderon of El Paso, Mike Lyles of El Paso, Geoffrey Calderon of Alpine; one daughter, Peggy Calderon of Pecos; one brother, Sal Calderon of Newport, Conn.; three sisters, Connie Brand of Atlanta, Ga., Elisa Morales of Austin, Bertha Bennett of San Antonio; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Bill Carrico

Wilfred Thomas “Bill” Carrico, 84, died on Feb. 24, 2005 in San Angelo, after a short illness.

A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, at Johnson’s Funeral Home, with a Mass at Holy Angels Catholic Church in San Angelo at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2. The family will attend graveside services at the Vance Cemetery in Vance, Texas at 4 p.m.

He was born in Dallas, Texas to William Lee and Lefa Ellen Harper Carrico, on January 1, 1921.

Carrico, who earned numerous honors for his musical career as both a performer and director, retired 22 years ago after heading of the music department at Pecos High School for 33 years. He had also taught at high schools in Eldorado, Laredo, Fort Stockton and Alpine.

Carrico was featured with his parents and older brother John as the Carrico Family Quartet at the 1932 Chicago World’s Fair.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Modell Burleson Carrico, in 1983 and by a grandson, Clayton Thomas Carrico Boose, in 1988.

Survivors include three sons Craig Carrico of North Richland Hills,Texas; Brett and of Chugiak, Alaska; Lance Carrico of San Angelo, Texas; one daughter Mary Lisa Boose of Norwalk, Ohio;13 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Juan Hernandez

Juan Lozano Hernandez, 65, of Kermit, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Winkler County Memorial Hospital.

Mass was scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born June12, 1939, in Saragosa, was a retired motor rewinder for electric power, was a longtime resident, and a Catholic.

Hernandez was preceded in death by three sisters, Santos Fuentes, Felicia Rayos and Belia Sanchez.

Survivors include one son, Raul O. Hernandez of Monahans; two daughters, Sonia H. Prieto of Austin, Syndi O. Hernandez of Pecos; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Jeremy Sanchez

Jeremy Sanchez, 19, of Toyah, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005.

Mass will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Manuel Munoz officiating. Burial will be in Toyah Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 25, 1985, in Odessa, was a Correctional Guard at the Reeves County Detention Center III and a Catholic.

Survivors include his mother, Robin Felts of Odessa; his father, Daniel Sanchez of Odessa; two brothers, Jaime and Jared Sanchez of Odessa; several aunts and uncles. Pecos Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Maria Wright

Maria “Lolita” Dolores Q. Wright, 75, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 at S.W. Texas Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church in Pecos. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery.

Wright was born Dec. 25, 1929 in Chihuahua, Mexico to father Augustin Quesada Jr. and mother Luz Blanca Davila. She was employed as a supervisor by the Pecos,Barstow, Toyah Independent School District for 20yrs, was a member of the Association of Guadalupana at Santa Rosa Catholic Church, was very active in the Pecos community, dedicated her time and energy to helping Junior and Senior Prom, P.T.A , Booster Club, and she taught Folkloric Dancing in Pecos. After moving to Odessa in 1994, Mrs. Wright joined the Association of Guadalupana with St. Josephs Catholic Church and was a member of the Lejion de Maria.

She was preceded in death by her husband Willie C. Wright, and her brother, Augustin Quesada.

Survivor include by three sons, Arturo Mendoza of Sanderson, Manuel "Monnie" Mendoza and William C. Wright both of Odessa; three daughters, Blanca Lozano of San Antonio, Elizabeth Jones and Norma Wright of Odessa, one brother, Zijfrido Quesada of Auga Prieta, Sonora, Mexico; two sisters, Blanca Avila of Pecos and Krimilda Carranza of Caborca Sonora, Mexico; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Paula Goff

Paula Goff, 63, of Pampa, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at Pampa. Services are scheduled at 10 a.m., Wednesday, in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Paul Nachtigall, of Highland Baptist Church officiating.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, at Edith Ford Cemetery in Canadian. Goff was born Nov. 14, 1941, I Pecos, had been a Pampa resident 1989, was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, belonged to Pampa Rotary Club and was secretary for Clean Pampa, Inc.

Survivors include one daughter, Karri Snyder of Amarillo; one son, John Goff of Seattle, Wash.; her mother, Twyla Jo Silvers of Pampa; one brother, Charles Silvers of Kerrville; one sister, Margaret Doggett of Giddings and four grandchildren.

Douglas Paschal

Douglas O’Neal “Bud” Paschal, 57, of Hindsville, Ark., died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005 at his home.

A memorial service was held at 11 .m., Wednesday, Feb. 16, at First Baptist Church in Hindsville, Ark.

He was born June 26, 1947, in El Paso, was a small engine and a U.S. veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Huntsville, Post #10,021.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas Paschal of Enid, Okla., Jacky Paschal of Ford Dodge, Iowa; one daughter, Rebecca Akins of Waco; his parents, Walter Byron “Red and Jackie Colleen Carr Paschal of Pecos; one brother, Byron Wayne “Shot” Paschal of Pecos; two sisters, Margaret Ryan of Midland; Patricia Figures of Georgetown and five grandchildren.

Donald D. "Patt" Patteson

Donald D. "Patt" Patteson, 85 of Hunt, Texas passed away on February 17, 2005 in a San Antonio hospital.

Patt married Jane McCutcheon of Pecos, Texas on January 29, 1944 and is survived by her and his son, Don Patteson and wife, Paula, of Houston, Texas, his daughter, Letha Noska and husband, Carl, of Richardson, Texas, grandchildren, Doug Patteson and wife, Susan, of Strafford, New Hampshire, Paige Mays and husband, Buddy, of Houston, Texas, Lindsay Patteson of Atlanta, Georgia, Vicky Zipper of Frisco, Texas and Christy Zipper of Richardson, Texas and great grandchildren, Beau Patteson, Callie Patteson, Tyler Mays, McKenzie Mays, Sam Patteson and Mary Katherine Patteson.

Patt loved his family and delighted in sharing his stories and life experiences with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to bird hunt and was a voracious Reader, passions he passed on to his progeny. Patt graduated from the University of Texas in 1939 with a BA in journalism. He was the sports editor of the campus newspaper, The Daily Texas and a lifelong, avid fan and supporter of UT athletics.

He was born September 6, 1919 in San Antonio, Texas and was a member of that "Greatest Generation" that defended our nation and the cause of freedom in World War II. He was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Force on active duty from December, 1941 through September, 1945. A talented pilot, for much of the war he was a flight instructor stateside, logging more than 2,400 hours in the air before his request to fly in combat was granted in October, 1944. He flew 83 combat missions in the P-47 fighter-bomber, many of which he led, was promoted to the rank of Captain and was highly decorated, receiving 10 air medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross. As a result, he is entitled to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery and his cremains will be interred there this spring.

After the war, Patt had an interesting and successful business career. He began his business career as the owner of a mercantile store in Toyahvale, Texas near the Davis Mountains. In 1948, he joined Anderson Clayton and rose through the ranks to become a regional manager for cotton gins.

His lending to farmers in that capacity led him to commercial banking, a career that began in Lovington, New Mexico with Lea County State Bank and ended with the formation of American Bank of Commerce in Grapevine, Texas where he was the founding President. He was widely regarded in the state of Texas as an accomplished and dependable commercial lender. Once he and Jane moved to Kerrville, he enjoyed success in real estate. One of his favorite business experiences was helping his son, Don, build WBC Holdings/Rentronics, a start-up company he worked with for five years beginning at the age of 70, long after most people that age have retired. Patt always had many interests and lots of energy and was active in various community and church organizations throughout his life.

There will be a funeral Mass at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Kerrville, Texas on Saturday, February 26, 2005 at 1:00 p.m.

Loyd Deakins

Loyd Deakins, 95, of Pecos, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at Reeves County Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Greer Willis officiating.

He was born March 19, 1909, in Novice, was a rancher, a longtime Pecos resident and a Baptist.

Survivors include one son, B.L. “Buckshot” Deakins of Pecos; one daughter, Joy Hill of Muldrow, Okla.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Floyd McNeil

Floyd James McNeil, 74, of Pecos, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, in El Paso. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 18, at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery with Greer Willis officiating.

He was born May 25, 1929, in Littlefield, was a longtime Pecos resident, a retired farmer and a Baptist.

McNeil was preceded in death by his parents, L.D. and Florence McNeil and one brother, D.C. “Dub” McNeil.

Survivors include his wife, Tommie McNeil of El Paso; two sons, Lloyd McNeil of El Paso, Gary McNeil of Midland; one brother, Jimmy McNeil of Presidio; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Charlotte Ann Whitehead Horne

Charlotte Ann Whitehead Horne, 62, of Monahans, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005. A memorial service was held Monday, Jan. 31, in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Craig Rhoton of Monahans officiating.

Horne was born July 27, 1942, in Sweetwater, to J.E. and Murial Whitehead, graduated from Odessa High School, attended Hardin Simmons and received her bachelor’s degree in Education from Sul Ross State University and spent many years teaching children in Crystal City, Lamesa, Balmorhea and Monahans. She and her husband, Wade, did missionary work in Colorado and was a member of Southside Baptist Church of Monahans.

Horne was preceded in death by her father, J.E. Whitehead.

Frances Waldrop

Frances J. Dillon Waldrop, 82, of Liberty, died Jan. 12, 2005, at her residence. Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, at First United Methodist Church in Liberty with burial in City Cemetery in Liberty.

She was born Nov. 10, 1922, in Center, to Thomas W. and Bertha Ellis Dillon, and was a resident of the Liberty area throughout most of her life.

Waldrop was a homemaker, a graduate of Liberty High School, had attended Port Arthur Business College, a member of First United Methodist Church of Liberty, and former U.S. Soil Conservation employee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Martha Haywood.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond A. Waldop of Liberty; one son, Lee Waldrop; three daughters, Jane Mussey, Martha Hill and Rae Smathers of Liberty; one brother, Ben Ellis Dillon of College Station; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Luis Sebastian Aguirre, a five-month old baby, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Hospice House in Odessa.

Carmen Castro, 75, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

She was born May 19, 1929, in Redford, Tx., was a housewife, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Sebero Bueno Jaquez, 73, of Pecos, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

He was born Nov. 8, 1931, in Verhalen, was retired, a lifetime Pecos resident, had served in the U.S. Army and served in Korea, and was a Catholic.

Jaquez was preceded in death by his parents, Marcello and Antonia Jaquez; two brothers, Simon and Fred Jaquez and one grandson, Michael Jeffrey Garcia.

Raul Ortiz

Raul Ramon Navarette Ortiz, 41, of Odessa, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at his residence.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 1, at The House of Prayer Baptist Church in Odessa, with Reverend Joe Angel Morales officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 11, 1963 in Pecos, was a Christian and worked in the construction industry.

Ortiz was preceded in death by his father, Julian A. Ortiz; one sister, Jessica Ann Young; his grandmother, Josefina N. Ortiz and great-grandmother, Concecion L. Navarette.

Frances Heath

Frances Ruby Heath, 85, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at her residence. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 28, at West Park Baptist Church with Ray Carreon and Ron Garcia officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen.

She married William Riley “Slim” Heath in Saper, Okla. in 1938. Together they moved to Pecos in February of 1952. During the last 53 years, Frances worked two years for Morrions Five and Dime and 17 years for Frost Bakery, retiring in 1985. During that time she also worked with the Civil Air Patrol.

Heath was preceded in death by his parents, James and Clara Weston; two sisters, Louise Pilkerton, Olivia Petty; two brothers, James Weston and Adam Weston and one son, Kenneth Heath.

Survivors include her husband, R.H. “Slim” Heath of Pecos; three sons, Charles Heath of Seguin, James Heath of La Port, Gary Heath of Carlsbad, N.M.; one daughter, Glenna Vines of Pecos; one sister, Ann Bell Petty of Hugo, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

James Clayton Osborn, 67, of Pecos, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at his residence.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m., Monday, Jan. 24, at the Toyah Cemetery.

Severo Carrasco

Severo “Jerry” V. Carrasco, 57, of Toyah, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at Reeves County Hospital.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 21, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born April 21, 1947, in Pecos, had served in the U.S. Army, was a tire man, a lifetime Toyah resident and a Catholic.

Quintanilla of Odessa; four sons, Jerry Carrasco of Toyah, Gilbert Carrasco of Las Vegas, Eddie Carrasco of Monahans, Reno Carrasco of Van Horn; six daughters, Kathy Jo Campos, Michelle Moore, Sabrina V. Josephine McCutcheon

Joesephine B. McCutcheon, 97 of Hunt, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, in a Kerrville nursing home.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Jane. 22, at the Presbyterian Church in Ft. Davis, with Rev. Gosset officiating.

She was born June 8, 1907, in Pecos, to J.B. and Francis Irene (Cowan) Prewit. She was a postmaster and was in ladies-to-wear most of her life.

Survivors include one daughter, Jane Patteson of Hunt; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew.

Pearl Barker

Pearl Barker, long-time resident of Pecos, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, in Beaumont.

Services will take place at 11 a.m., at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland, Jan. 19.

Barker was born in Douglas, Arizona on Jan. 17, 1906. She was 98-years-old, she served as Tax Collector-Assessor in Reeves County for 23 years, before retiring.

She is preceded in death by two husbands, William W. Massey and O.E. Barker. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Massey; one nephew, Sam A. Cresap; one great niece and her children.

Glenn Beckwith

Glenn Erwin Beckwith, 69, of Williamston, died Saturday, Jan. 15, at Hospice of the Upstate.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 17, at Greenville Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mike Montgomery and Rev. Wally Winner officiating.

He was born in Armstrong, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Wilbur Beckwith and Georgia Carpenter. He a Baptist and a retired Veteran of the Air Force and the Marines. Survivors include two daughters, Tonya Currens and Shannon Thomas, of Williamston; one son, Johnny Beckwith of California; one brother, Wilbur Beckwith , Jr. of Pennsylvania and two grandchildren.

Gregorio Chavarria

Gregorio Y. Chavarria, 86, of Fort Stockton, died Jan. 12, 2005 at his residence. A Prayer Service was held at 7 p.m., Jan. 14, at the Church of Christ with Rev. Harold Durham officiating. Burial was in East Hill Cemetery in Fort Stockton.

He was born Nov. 27, 1918, in Terlingua to Juan and Cleotilde Chavarria. He married his late wife, Trinidad Garcia on Aug. 18, 1942, in Alpine.

Chavarria was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one sister, Mauricia Garcia. Survivors include three son, Greg Chavarria of Austin, Samuel Chavarria of Houston, Daniel Chavarria of Fort Stockton; two daughters, Consuelo Jaquez of Pecos, Amparo Almendarez of Fort Stockton; three brothers, Flavio, Ricardo and Felipe Chavarria of Fort Stockton; one sister, Anita Chavarria Gonzalez of Fort Stockton; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Elwenna Mae Chenault

Elwenna Mae “Sis” Chenault went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005. Visitation was held at the Pecos Funeral Home on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Church services celebrating her life were on Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at 11 a.m. at West Park Baptist Church in Pecos.

Sis was a long time resident of Pecos, was born Oct. 19, 1919 in Taylor County to D. C. and Laura Doan. She married Jack Chenault on Sept. 28, 1946, they moved to Pecos in 1965 to open a Gibson’s store.

Jack passed away on March 11, 1969 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Sis owned the store until she retired in January 1995, was a member of West Park Baptist Church and the Pecos Senior Citizens Center. She was generous and caring and loved by her many friends and family. Her favorite pastime was talking about or sharing time with her two grandchildren. She was there for every recital, event, or graduation. She enjoyed traveling and one of her favorite vacations was a cruise to Alaska that she took with her daughter.

Chenault is preceded in death by her parents and her four brothers, Chris, Clayton, Billy D., and Don Doan, and the love of her life, her husband Jack.

Survivors include one daughter, Vicki and her husband Harold Horne, and her two grandchildren Jacquelyn and her husband Jared Evans, and Justin Horne.

Israel Matta

Israel Matta, 51, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at Reeves County Hospital. Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 13, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 25, 1953, in Pecos, was a substitute teacher, had served in the U.S. Army, a longtime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include his mother, Emma Guzman of Pecos; one daughter, Melanie Matta of Austin; one brother, Ernesto Matta of Hobbs, N.M. and one grandchild.

Jason Sanders

Jason Ray Sanders, 33, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

He was born Jan. 14, 1971, to Larry and Kim Sanders of Pecos and married Elena Heda of Kherson, Ukraine on Dec. 12, 1998, in Pecos. During his lifetime, he lived in Saragosa, Pecos and Ft. Stockton, before moving to Odessa in August 2003. He was previously employed by Smithers Automotive Test Track of Pecos and Kett engineering of Ft. Stockton and since 2003 he has been employed by West Texas Peterbuilt of Odessa.

Sanders was a member of The Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include his wife, Elena Sanders of Odessa; two sons, Dylan Ray and Bronson Toleh Sanders of Odessa; his parents, Larry and Kim Sanders of Odessa; two brothers, Jeremy and Chase Sanders of Odessa; one sister, Ceneca Burkholder of Odessa; one nephew, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Patricia Briggs

Patricia Margaret Briggs, 79, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at an Abilene medical center.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso. She was born Dec. 30, 1925, to Lottie May (Urie) and William Sidney Patton in El Paso, graduated from New Mexico State University and received her teacher certificate at Sul Ross University. She lived in Pecos for 45 years where she was an elementary school teacher, was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and Zeta Tau Alpha. Briggs moved from Arlington to Abilene three years ago.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew Briggs, Jr. in Pecos on Jan. 30, 1985; two brothers, Col. John D. Patton and William Patton.

Survivors include one daughter, Cecilia Tollett of Abilene; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Rodolfo “Fito” Guebara, 70, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland.

He was born Sept. 27, 1934, in Saragosa, to Jose and Georgia Guebara and was a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Monserato C. Guebara of Saragosa; three sons, Benjamin and Ray C. Guebara of Midland, Rufino C. Guebara of Balmorhea; one brother, Guillermo Guebara of Pecos; two sisters, Mary G. Carrasco and Aida G. Brijalba of Odessa; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Patricia Wren, 49, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital Medical Center in Fountain Valley, Calif.

She was born Nov. 12, 1955 in Pecos, to Santiago Natividad and Bertha Garcia. She was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include her mother, Bertha Garcia of Balmorhea; her grandmother, Delfina Gomez of Balmorhea; four sisters, Sylvia Bonillas of Fontana, Calif., Anna Zubeldia of Chino, Calif., Estella Cordero of Santa of Santana, Calif. and Susana Garcia of Rialto, Calif.

Billie Ruth Carnes Henn, 78, of Andrews, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, in Andrews.

She was born July 29, 1926, in Murchison, moved to Andrews in 1983 from Havre, Montana, had also lived in Pecos, was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, taught Sunday School, served as a Stake Missionary with her husband, was a member of the Relief Society and was a “Rosie Riveter” during W.W. II in California.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Leon Henn of Andrews; two sons, Craig Lee Batson of Ft.
