Lois GaultLois Jean Gault, of Midland, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at a local care center. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Marathon Cemetery. She was born on Oct. 24, 1915, in Marathon, to Charles and Nellie Martin. She was raised and educated in Marathon, was married to the late William H. Gault, assisted her husband in their pediatric office in Arizona and was a Baptist. Survivors include two nephews and one niece. Harris, Jr., 86, of Mineola, died Dec. 4, 2004, in Tyler. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 11 at Kingdom Hall with Conrad Armstrong officiating. Harris was born Oct. 4, 1918 in San Angelo, to the late Lawrence B. Harris, Sr. and Verda B. Scott Harris. He had lived in Mineola four years moving from Pecos, had served in the Army Air Force, was a retired math teacher and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Charles O. Harris and one sister, Minnie Rene Gilbert. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Helen Brooks Harris, Mineola; daughter, Dottie Rene Cockrell, Bartlesville, OK; brother, John Scott Harris, San Angelo; one granddaughter, one great-grandson, numerous nieces and nephews. Gomicinda MoralesGomicinda Morales, 67, of Saragosa, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, in Odessa. A rosary was held at 7 p.m., Thursday, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Saragosa. Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating. Burial will be in Saragosa Cemetery. She was born Jan. 12, 1937, in Barancos, De Guadalupe, Mexico, was a homemaker, a longtime Saragosa resident and a Catholic. Morales was preceded in death by her husband, Juan Morales; one son, Jose Morales; two daughters, Anna Maria Morales and Conchita Morales; two brothers, Reyes Rodriguez and Concepcion Rodriguez and one sister, Lencha Rodriguez. Survivors include two sons, Felipe Morales of Odessa, Juan Morales of Saragosa; three daughters, Catarina Esparza and Paula Reyes of Lampassas, Rosie Lara of Pecos; one brother, Santiago Rodriguez of Pecos; two sisters, Trine Bejarano of Imperial, Rita Martinez of Petersburg; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at noon, Friday, Dec. 31, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Balmorhea with Father James Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Balmorhea Cemetery. Moore was born Oct. 6, 1954, in Pecos, to Harvey and Martha Moore. He was raised and educated in Balmorhea, graduated from Balmorhea High School, was a Catholic and member of St. Stephens Catholic Church in Midland and Christ the King Catholic Church in Balmorhea. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Martha Moore; grandparents, Albert and Cora Moore; grandfather, Robert Jones and grandmother, Zollie Odell. Survivors include: two brothers, John Harvey Moore, Jr. of Bloomfield, N.M., Joseph Edgar Moore of Midland; two sisters, Janet Ellen Sessom of Lawton, Okla., Peggy Christine Moore of Midland; four aunts, one nephew; two nieces and several cousins. Guerrero was born on Sept. 18, 1918 in Ojinaga, Chih., Mex., and died on Dec. 24 at Reeves County Hospital. He was a retired farmer, a longtime Pecos resident and a Catholic. Survivors include seven sons, Ramon Guerrero, Juan Guerrero and Eavristo Guerrero of Pecos; Jose Guerrero of Abilene; Luis Guerrero of Austin; Sergio Guerrero of Odessa and Fernando Guerrero of Midland; four daughters, Pilar Solis and Rosie Flores of Pecos; Socorro Rubio of Dallas and Ysella Betts of Hobbs, N.M.; 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Pecos Funeral Home. A rosary was held at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel. Matta was born on Oct. 31, 1982 in Pecos, and died on Dec. 24. He was a correctional officer, a lifelong Pecos resident and a Catholic. Survivors include parents Jerry Matta and Olga Lopez of Pecos and Corina Matta of Pecos; Grandparents German Alvarez of Pecos and Ben and Chuy Matta of Pecos; five uncles and three aunts. He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Elidia Alvarez. Geraldine "Gerry" ReedGeraldine "Gerry" Brownlee Reed, 84, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2004 in Midland, Texas. She was born March 22, 1920 to Archie Floyd Brownlee and Mary Ann Gross, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was raised and educated in Pecos, Texas. Gerry attended Texas Tech University. She married Edward Looman Reed, Jr. in Pecos, Texas on October 14, 1939. Gerry and Ed lived in Wink, Midland, and Wichita Falls returning to Midland in 1947. From 1982 to 1998, they lived in Port Townsend, Washington, returning to Midland in 1998 where she lived until her death. Gerry had a special love for the outdoors, wildflowers, gardening, painting, birds, and Southwestern cultures. Her family was the center of her life. She raised her family with loving kindness and was a shining example of how to treat others. She instilled in her children a love for God and nature. She embraced each day with a joyful attitude, regardless of what circumstances might arise. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Looman Reed, Jr., a son, Edward Looman Reed, III, and two sisters, Bernadette Garrett and Mary Ann Brownlee.Gerry is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Johnson and husband, Stephen, of Lubbock, TX; seven sons, David Joel Reed and wife, Kathy, of Springfield, OR; A. Joseph Reed and wife, Georgia, of Midland, TX; V. Oneita StantonOneita Stanton, 80, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Hospice House in Odessa. She was born Dec. 28, 1923, in Matador, was a lifelong Pecos resident, a homemaker and a member of West Park Baptist Church. Stanton was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin F. Stanton and one daughter, Frances Kaye Perkins. Survivors include one son, Rick Stanton of Marble Falls; two daughters, Nelda Elliott of Pecos, Linda Compton of Odessa; four brothers, Dib Truett of Fort Worth, Tab and Pierce Truett of Lubbock, Dean Truett of Midland; three sisters, Louise Morris of Fort Worth, Jean Flood of Abanathy, Kaye Sterling of Los Angeles, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Jones Auditorium in Denver City with Father Trine Fuentes officiating. Burial was in the Denver City Memorial Park. Natividad was born Aug. 6, 1967, in Pecos. She married Joey Natividad on June 15, 1996, in Denver City, lived in Pecos for 17 years before moving to Denver City 19 years ago, was a graduate of the College of the Southwest and had been a Pre-K Teacher with the Denver City Independent School District for 10 years. She was an active member of the ST. Williams Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Joey Natividad of Denver City; one son, Aaron Natividad of Denver City; one daughter, Alexandra Natividad of Denver City; her parents, Roger and Rosa Granado of Pecos; two brothers, Nicholas Granado of Flower Mound, Tx., Christopher Ganado of Odessa; her grandparents and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was born March 10, 1918, in Hagerman, N.M., was a homemaker, had lived in Fort Stockton since 1966, moving there from Pecos, was a longtime member of Fort Stockton Garden Club and many bridge clubs, active in Homebound ministry of First Baptist Church and a member of First Baptist Church. Card was preceded in death by her husband, W.L. “Dub” Card on June 18, 1994. Survivors include two sons, W.L. Muriel GottliebMuriel Gottlieb, 94, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at the Pecos Nursing Home. She was born Feb. 22, 1910, in Bellville, Tx., was a homemaker, a longtime Pecos resident and a Baptist. Cora OdieCora Mae Odie, 90, of Pecos, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at her residence. A chapel service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery. She was born April 8, 1914, in Grapeland, Tx., was a retired school teacher, a longtime Pecos resident and a House of Prayer Church member. Odie was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Odie Sr. and one son, Jimmie Odie, Jr. Survivors include two sisters, Eola Price of Dallas, Delphia Burns of Dallas; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-great grandchildren; nine great-great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and friends. He will be transported to Del Valle Funeral Home in Ojinaga, Mexico and burial will be in Canada Ancha Cemetery in Ojinaga. He was born June 21, 1939, in Ojinaga, Chih., Mexico, was a geophysics laborer, a longtime Pecos resident and a Catholic. Survivors include one son, Israel Rodriguez Jr. of Carlsbad, N.M.; six brothers, Ramon Rodriguez of Pecos, Alfonso, Raul, Octavio, Victor and Bibian Rodriguez, all of Ojinaga; one sister and one Graciela Melendez of Pecos. Peaceful Garden Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Loraine WaldropLoraine M. Waldrop, 95, of Sweetwater, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at the Sweetwater Health Care Center. Graveside services will be held at noon, Friday, Dec. 10, at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene with Rev. Mark Metzger officiating. Waldrop was born June 3, 1909 in Brekenridge, was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sweetwater, was active in her church was a member of United Methodist Women and a member of the Lydia Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Book Review Club and S.N.A.P. in Sweetwater. She moved to Abilene in 1920 with her family and lived there until 1950. She was a graduate of Abilene High School, attended Simmons University in Abilene, after moving in 1950 to Pecos, she became very active in her community civicly and church-wise; she was active in the Methodist Church New Mexico Conference for many years and was active as a volunteer at the Reeves County Memorial Hospital for over 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Nathan Waldrop in 1976 and one brother, L.W. Miller in 1968. Survivors include one son, Alton M. Waldrop of Sweetwater; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one niece. McCoy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Ruth WellsRuth Wells, 80, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, in an Alpine nursing home, after a battle with cancer. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, at Geeslin Funeral Home, 209 W. Sul Ross Avenue, Alpine. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Thursday, at the Geeslin Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be held at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, near Austin on Saturday, Dec. 11. Mrs. Wells was born on April 4, 1924, in San Saba, to Thomas Luther and Nina Till Sutton. She lived for many years in Pecos and worked for the Pecos Enterprise for 17 years as the office manager. After moving to Alpine, Wells became very active in the community. She volunteered at the Chamber of Commerce, the Women’s Hospital Auxiliary, and the AARP. Wells was preceded in death by one grandson, Kevin Gradel. She was also named “Citizen of the Year” in 2000. Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend whom will be greatly missed. Survivors include one son, Ronald Kesler and his wife, Linda of Humble; one daughter, Barbara Bunch and her husband, George of Florida; one granddaughter, Carey Herrera and her husband, Ruben of Kemah; great-grandsons, Gabriel and Daniel Herrera of Kemah; one sister, Maurine DeVoll and her husband, Sanford of Alpine; and her brothers, Mack Sutton and his wife Jean of Lampasas; Charles Worth Sutton of Arlington. Thomas AlexanderThomas Samuel Alexander, 21, of Valley Mills, died Saturday, Nov. 27, in Lakeville, Minn. A Mass of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. He was born July 30, 1983, in Austin, graduated from Pecos High School with honors in the top 10 percent of his class. He was Drum Major his senior at Pecos High School, competed in Debate in the ninth through 12th grade placing in district and advancing to regionals. He competed in the UIL State competition and advanced to the UIL state solo and ensemble and all area band. He was Cum Laude of Odessa College in 2000-2001, was a senior at Grinnell College, majoring in history with a concentration in East Asian studies, was a member of Dagohir and was a Master of the Sword. He was a member of the Symphonic Band at Grinnell College, volunteered with the Big Brothers-Big Sisters organization and was awarded a Congressional Nomination to the Merchant Marines at Kings Point, New York in 2001. He played tennis, golf and was a member of the Latin Club, was a member “Ex’s Tea” of the National Honor Society, was a volunteer for “Adopt a Highway,” National Hispanic Institute, Lorenzo de Zavala legislative program and was elected Speaker Pro-Tem of the Senate of the Colorado State House. He was Who’s Who Among American Students 1999-2001, United States Achievement Academy from 1999-2001 and Presidential Academy Achievement in 1997 and 2001. Petra ChavezPetra Chavez, 76, of Midland, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at her residence. Mass will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with burial at Mt. Olive Memorial Park in Midland. She was born April 7, 1928, in San Antonio Del Bravo, Mexico, to Jose Porras and Narciza Flores Porras. She married Ricardo Chavez on May 28, 1948, in Pecos and the couple moved to Big Spring in 1949. After 48 years in Big Spring, they moved to Midland in 1997. She was a homemaker, one of the original members of the Cursillo Movement in Big Spring, which was started in 1963, participated in over 60 Cursillo Retreats, was a volunteer chef for over 300 Cursillos. She went on Cristo Rey Pilgrimages to El Paso for 15 years, stopping because of her health, was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, active in Guadalupanas, Ladies Society of Sacred Heart and later St. Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ismael Chavez in 1976; two sisters, Manuela Baltazar and Elena Porras; one brother, Pascual Porras; one granddaughter, Pamela A. Sanchez and one grandson, Isaac Chavez. Survivors include her husband, Ricardo Chavez of Midland; two sons, Jose and Jabor Chavez of Midland; three daughters, Maria Alicia Sanchez and Margarita Vasquez of Midland, Elida Rodriguez of Big Spring; two sisters, Guadalupe Garcia of Waco, Pilar Yanez of Big Spring; 22 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren. Myers and Smith Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements. Ann KennedyAnn Richburg Kennedy, 70, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 6, at Wilson’s Funeral Director’s Chapel in Wolfforth. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 8. She was born Oct. 12, 1934, in Pecos, graduated from Pecos High School in 1953, graduated from North Texas State University in Denton with a Bachelor of Arts degree in May of 1956. She went on to earn a Master’s degree in Special Education from Texas Tech University in 1969, taught elementary school in Pecos for five years before moving to Lubbock where she continued her career in teaching until 1991, for a total of 29 years. She retired from teaching in May of 1991, was a member of Avion and South Plains Drifter’s travel clubs with whom she enjoyed touring the United States. She got to see most of the places she planned to see before she was forced to slow down. Survivors include her husband, Jim Kennedy of Lubbock; one daughter, Deliese and husband, Randy Robinson; one sister, Charlotte and husband, Dick Woodruff; great-aunt, Mary Catherine Jones; brothers-and sisters-in-law, LaVern and Johnny Kennedy and Regina and Larry Kenney, as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends from all over. The family wishes to thank the excellent staff of VistaCare Hospice who were instrumental in providing comfort and care during this last chapter of Ann’s life. Ray TrammellRay Edwin Trammell,74, of Granbury, Tx., died Saturday, Dec. 4. Services are pending at Martian Funeral Home in Granbury. Trammell worked and lived in Pecos for many years and was a retired carpenter in Granbury. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Alma and WW Trammell and one brother, Dub Trammell. Survivors include his wife Etta Trammell; two daughters, Kelly Vasquez and Elaine Vessles; two sons, Gary Thomasson and Steve Thomasson; one brother, Bob Trammell of Pecos; one sister, Velma Deats; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
