She was born Aug. 13, 1947, in Acala, was a lifelong Pecos resident, a homemaker and a Catholic. Survivors include her husband, Luis L. Ortega of Pecos; one daughter, Gloria V. She was born Oct. 20, 1949, in Artesia, N.M., she was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include five sons, Jesse, Martin, Valente Jr., James and Joe Soto of Odessa; two daughters, Maria Fuentez and Becky Soto of Odessa; five brothers, Jose Villanueva of Seagraves, Domingo Villanueva of Denver, Colo., Gilberto, Hijinio and Miguel Angel Olivas Gonzales of Ojinaga, Mexico; three sisters, Sylvia O. Jimmy VasquezJimmy Rosales Vasquez, 93, of Shawnee, Okla., died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at a local nursing home.Services will be held at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 14, at St. Benedicts Catholic Church with Rev. Maurus Jaeb, O.S.B. officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery in Shawnee, Okla. He was born Dec. 4, 1907, in Pecos, worked with Santa Fe Railroad in Shawnee during the 1940's, retired from Prestolite of Oklahoma City, a division of Ford Motor Company, in 1980 after 18 years of service. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union of Oklahoma City and a member of St. Benedicts Catholic Church of Shawnee. He was preceded in death by his wife, one sister and seven brothers. Maurus Jaeb officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery. He was born on Dec. 4, 1907 in Pecos and a resident of Shawnee since 1985. He worked with the Santa Fe Railroad in Shawnee during the 1940s and was retired from Prestolite of Oklahoma City, a member of the United Auto Workers union and a member of St. Benedicts Church. He married Nina Vasquez on Nov. 14, 1953. He is preceded in death by his wife, one sister and seven brothers. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. Pettis Veterans Hospital in Loma Linda, CA.Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001 at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at the East Side Cemetery. He was born on August 13, 1954 in Pecos and was enlisted in the U.S. Navy for over 11 years. He became disabled in an automobile accident in 1986, which left him a quadriplegic. Survivors include his mother, Ida Hill Hallman; three brothers Charles Hill of Dayton, Ohio; Chedor Hallman of Washington; David Owens of Vallejo, CA; two sisters Vida Hallman of Norwark, CA and Bernadette Owens of Compton, CA. Gregorio GabaldonGregorio Gabaldon, 70, of Pecos died on Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Reeves County Hospital.Mass is scheduled for today with burial in Las Colinas, Chih., Mexico. He was born on March 12, 1930 in Cuchillo Parado, Mexico was a retired laborer and a Catholic. Survivors include his wife Carmen Gabaldon of Pecos; three sons Miguel Gabaldon, Gregorio Gabaldon and Alfonso Gabaldon all of Pecos; four daughters Mary Lou Gabaldon of Odessa, Margarita De Anda of Odessa, Elvira Aguilar of Pecos and Michele Gabaldon of Pecos; three brothers Nolberto Gabaldon, Lino Gabaldon and Teoflio Gabaldon all of Pecos; one sister Natalia Villalobos; and 10 grandchildren. Spikes was a former Pecos resident and had lived in Texarkana for the past 20 years. Survivors include three daughters, Pearl Spikes, Ruth Gray, and Lucy Kirton, all of Texarkana, and three sons, Thomas, Paul and Glen Spikes. She was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Pecos, had lived in Pecos all her life until three years ago when she moved to El Paso. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. Martha HagarMartha "Kathryn" Cowley Hagar, 80, entered the kingdom of Heaven on Feb. 5, 2001.She was born on March 15, 1920, in Mt. Pleasant, Tx., to Dutch and Donnie Cowley. She moved with her family to the West Texas community of Forsan where her father worked in the oil industry. Kathryn graduated from Forsan High School in 1937 and married Jimmy Hagar, a salesman for Safeway Grocery, on Feb. 11, 1939. In 1940, they moved to Pecos, where they raised their three daughters and owned and operated the Hagar Brothers and Nik-Nak Grocery Stores. They were active members of the First Baptist Church and civic organizations. In 1982, Kathryn moved to San Angelo where she lived for many years at the Christian Village Retirement Center, where she worked at the hospitality desk until September of 2000. The legacy Kathryn passes to her daughters, grandchildren and extended family is abiding faith in Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior; loving devotion to family; and integrity. Some people only read about heroes, we got to call ours "mother." Kathryn is preceded in death by her husband Jimmy, her parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Bob Cowley, her nephew Bobby Cowley and son-in-law Don Sanders. She is survived by her three daughters, Donna Hagar Sanders of San Angelo, Martha Sue "Suzy" Hagar of Dallas and Jimmy Ann Hagar Thompson of Grapevine; her husband, Todd Thompson; four grandchildren, Ron Sanders, Jim Sanders, Jeff Sanders and Avery Hagar Thompson; three grand daughters-in-law, Juli Sanders, Dawn Sanders and Donna J. Sanders; five great grandchildren, Austin Sanders, Emily Kathryn Sanders, Gatlin Bates, Suzannah Sanders and Grant Sanders; sisters-in-law, Betty Cowley, Evelyn Cowley and Helen Hagar; nieces and nephew, Martha Ann Williams, Brenda Cowley and Steve Cowley and many dear friends. Dennis Tecters officiating. She was born on Dec. 3, 1920 in Ackerly, graduated from Ackerly High School in 1937 and a lifelong resident of Dawson County. She married Howard Huddle on April 11, 1941 in Ackerly, who preceded her in death. She was a chairperson of the Bereavement Committee for the First Baptist Church for many years, a 60-year member of the same church as well as a chairperson of the local American Heart Association. Survivors include one son Ronnie Huddle of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter Carolann Lee of Pecos; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association. John TotterDr. John Randolph Totter, 87, of Oak Ridge, Tenn. died on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 of pancreatic cancer at the Oak Ridge Retirement Center.Services were held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001 in the Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Shaw officiating. He was born on Jan. 7, 1914 in Saragosa and was a biochemist, teacher, researcher and administrator in his field. He did research on various things including cancer research and bone marrow studies. He married Elizabeth Margaret Van Sant on August 6, 1938. She preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 1995. Survivors include his second wife, Mary Elizabeth Smith; two sisters Gladys McAmy and Irene Totter of Little Rock, Ark.; one brother Matthew Tooter of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters Lorena Totter Barfuss of Bristol, R.I. and Anita Totter of Harwich, Mass.; one son John A. Survivors include her husband, Mucio Dominguez of Pecos; one son, Jerry Dominguez of Pecos; three daughters, Debbie Ramirez, Irene Cox and Norma Rubio of Pecos; four sisters, Lupe Ortiz of Chandler, Ariz., Celia Levario of Pecos, Eloisa Flores and Becky Natividad of Odessa; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Gonzales in 1996; two brothers and three sisters. Survivors include three sons, Saul, Manuel Gonzales, Jr. and Gilberto Gonzales of Pecos; three daughters, Elva Tarin of Midland and Delma and Rosie Gonzales of Pecos; one sister, Gabriela Franco of Odessa and eight grandchildren. Charles McGoldrickCharles McGoldrick, 68, of West Creek, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Sea Crest Village Nursing Home in Little Egg Harbor, N.J.Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 3, at Maxwell Funeral Home, 160 Mathistown Rd., Little Egg Harbor, N.J. Burial will be in West Creek Cemetery. He was born in Philadelphia and had lived in Mentone prior moving to West Creek 1½ years ago. He was a retired chief engineer for the Merchant Marine, was a commissioned officer for the Texas Guard serving with two silver bars, was on tour in Vietnam, Desert Storm, and was a deputy in the reserves in Luma County, N.M. He served as a deputy sheriff in Mentone for eight years, was a member of VFW and the American Legion. Survivors include his son, Charles J. McGoldrick III of Philadelphia; two daughters, Lorraine McGoldrick of Tuckerton, Pa. and Jacqueline McGoldrick of Philadelphia; one brother, Ray McGoldrick of Philadelphia; two sisters, Agnes Pharo of Tuckerton, Margaret Wells of Manahawkin; one granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
