Edgar Blair

Edgar Leon Blair, 93, of Monahans, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Ward Memorial Hospital in Monahans.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 23, at Heritage Funeral Chapel with John Bell officiating. Burial was in Kermit Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 16, 1910, in Fort Worth, was a retired mechanic for Exxon, served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon).

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Blair of Monahans; two daughters, Marlene Terry Coleman of Pecos, Venetia Terry Hitch of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Jack Donaghey

Jack Donaghey Sr., 69, of Andrews, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Hospice House in Odessa.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, at McNett Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Emmit Bernard with Home Hospice officiating.

Graveside services were at 3 p.m., Saturday, at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Big Spring. He was born July 7, 1935, in Anson, had lived in Andrews for the past eight years, moving there from Seagraves, was a truck driver and had farmed and ranched for many years.

Survivors include one son, Jack Donaghey Jr. of Andrews; three daughters, Janice Parker, Dela Greenway of Andrews, Karla Barnes of Alamagordo, N.M.; one sister, Betty Nunnelee of Ft. Davis; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marion Keely

Marion “Gene” Keely, 79, of Marble Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21, at First Baptist Church of Granite Shoals with David Carrington and Jack Whyburn officiating. Burial was in Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Marble Falls.

He was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Rock, Kansas.

Keely was preceded in death by one brother, Merlin Keely and one granddaughter, Jennifer Keely.

Survivors include two sons, Wes Keely of Winfield, Kansas, Tim Keely of Bangs, Tx.; one daughter, Janette Stanton of Marble Falls; one brother, Marvin Keely of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

John Borcherding

John Borcherding, 23, of Buda, Tx., died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 23, at Pennington Memorial Chapel with Mr. Randy Consford officiating. Burial was in Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale, Tx.

He was born in Waco, on Sept. 7, 1980, to Jerry and Jeanine (Baker) Borcherding. A graduate of Hays High School and later of Texas A&M University, Class of 2003, John was a hard worker and an avid traveler, who traveled widely in France, South Korea and Asia. He will be missed so much by his family and friends, who will always cherish his memory.

His paternal grandparents, Butch and Maxine Borcherding, and his maternal grandmother, Jean Baker preceded him in death.

He is survived by his parents, Jerry Borcherding and Jeanine (Baker) Borcherding of Buda; maternal grandfather, Charles Baker of Bryan; one brother, Jeff Borchering and wife, Alissa of Manchaca; one sister, Jana O’Banon and husband, Andrew of Kyle; nieces, Rebekah O’banon of Kyle and Abigail Borcherding of Manchaca; the James W. Bonner Family of Texarkana, Robert Zikes Family of Temple; the Lloyd Borcherding of Texarkana and Dana Blocker of Sherman. He is also survived by his cousins, Emily Pennington, Terry Zikes, Jana Holubec, Lyndall Elkins, David Elkins and James Bonner, III.

J.C. Holland

J.C. “Jake” Holland, 79, of Denver City, died Friday, Aug. 20, in Lubbock.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, in the First Baptist Church with Bob Fred officiating. Burial was in Gaines County Cemetery in Seminole.

He was born Dec. 14, 1924, in De Leon to Daisy and Walter Holland, married Lois Elizabeth Graham Holland on Sept. 18, 1947, in Stephenville and they were married for 56 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a Motor Sgt., was then employed by El Paso Natural Gas for 13 years, worked for Sue Stevens for many years, calf roped and bronc busted in the regional rodeos and owned and operated H&S Implement & Salvage in Denver City for 25 yeas.

Holland was preceded in death by a brother, Harley, three sisters, Myrtle Hale, Lorene Fuller and Imogene Holland.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; two sons, Walter Holland and wife Judy of Pecos, Steven Holland and wife Lexi of Dahlonega, Georgia; two daughters, Elizabeth Brown and husband Curtis of Seminole and Nona Banks and husband Bob of Denver City; 11 grandchildren, Mark Brown and wife Lee Anne; Robert Banks and wife Jeanette; Grant Holland, Jake Holland, William Holland and Brandon, Michael and David Tate, Amy Brown, Leia Holland, Lydia Holland and eight great-grandchildren.

Clayton McKinney

Clayton McKinney, of Midland, Texas passed away on August 20, 2004.

Clayton was born June 4, 1940 to Pat McKinney and Vera Gulihur in Marathon, Texas and was raised and educated there.

Clayton worked in law enforcement all of his life. He was a pilot and Game Warden for the Texas Parks and Wildlife in Van Horn, Texas. Clayton was a well respected and well known Texas Ranger. He spent most of his time in Sierra Blanca and Alpine, Texas while with the Texas Rangers before retiring in 1985. He retired in 2002 as Chief Deputy for the Midland County Sheriff's Office. Clayton was also a lifetime member of the Sheriff's Association of Texas, a lifetime member of the Former Texas Ranger Association, an inductee in the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and a member of Fort Hancock Masonic Lodge, Fort Hancock, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Pauline Stuart.

Clayton is survived by his wife Jean of Midland, TX, sons Clay and wife Brenda, their children Clay Ryon, Jake and Sarah, all of Pecos, TX.; Troy and wife Kim and their children Brooke, Clayton and Hannah, all of Collinsville, TX; and Rory and wife Katrina and their children Ember, Ethan, and Evan, all of Midland, TX. He is also survived by a brother Billy Pat McKinney of Comanche, TX. and a sister Midge Gooch, of Robert Lee, TX as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Monday, August, 23, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland. Burial will follow at 4:00 P.M. at Marathon Cemetery in Marathon, TX. Reverend George Frasier will officiate both services. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas (432) 683-5555.

Pall bearers will be Gary Painter, Jerry Gulihur, Macky Shackelford, George Litton, David Cook, Dewayne Lindsey, with honorary pallbearers being Dr. Jerry Cochran, Dr. James Barnett, and Dr. Bruce Mickey.

Alyssa Hernandez

Alyssa Liana Hernandez, 2 years old, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 20, at St. Johns Catholic Church with burial in Monahans Memorial Cemetery.

She was born June 9, 2002, in Odessa and was a Catholic.

Survivors include her parents, Roberto Juan Hernandez of Monahans; her mother, Bertha Calderon Munoz of Monahans; grandparents: Raul Hernandez of Monahans, Alma Hernandez of Odessa, Fancisco Munoz of Monahans, Carmen Munoz of Monahans; one sister, Brittney Hernandez of Monahans.

Salvador Lozano

Salvador C. “Chava” Lozano, 56, of Pecos, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in Wyoming. Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born April 18, 1948, in Fresnillo Zacatecas, was a carpenter and a Catholic. Survivors include his wife, Frances B. Lozano; his mother, Dionicia Cruz Lozano; three sons, Salvador “Chavita” Lozano Jr. of Odessa, Rey David Lozano of Odessa, Hector Lozano of Barstow; two brothers, Manuel and Arturo Lozano of Juarez, Chihuahua and six grandchildren.

Esack Ramirez

Esack Sosa Ramirez, 76, of Pecos, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at Reev es County Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Assembly of God Church, 512 1/2 W. Third, Pecos.

He was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Fort Stockton, was retired, a member of the Pentacostal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ramirez; three sons, Larry Ozuna of Midland, Isack Ramirez, Jr. of San Angelo, Raymond Ramirez of Mesquite; two brothers, Reyes Ramirez of Ft. Stockton, Richard Ramirez of Lubbock; three sisters, Susanna Blanco of Ft. Stockton, Socorro Celaya of San Angelo, Sandi Scott of Ft. Stockton; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services are incomplete for Leticia Muniz, 34, of Saragosa, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Reeves County Hospital.

She is the daughter of Cruz and Anita Muniz of Saragosa.

Manuel Maynez

Manuel Maynez, 62, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Reeves County Hospital. Mass will be held Saturday, Aug. 21, in Ojinaga, Mexico, with burial in San Jose Garden Cemetery in Ojinaga.

He was born Jan. 2, 1941, in Eutimia Coahuila, Mexico, was a laborer-farming, a longtime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Josefina Maynez of Pecos; three sons, Jose Maynez of Las Vegas, N.M., Juan Maynez of Las Vegas, N.M., Alfred Maynez of Ojinaga, Mexico; three daughters, Mirna Salgado of Pecos, Ana Luisa Maynez of Ojinaga, Mexico, Ermilia Sotelo of Artesia, N.M.; two brothers, Melchor Maynez of Odessa, Mario Maynez of Odessa and 13 grandchildren.

Susie Pattillo

Susie Edith Pattillo, 90, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 13, at First Baptist Church of Burnet. Burial will follow at 3 p.m., in Eastlawn Cemetery in Brownwood.

She was born Dec. 16, 1913, in Leslie, Ark., to B.B. and Virginia Cypert and married L.A. “Rube” Pattillo on Oct. 14, 1933.

Pattillo was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one granddaughter, Tami Pattillo; two brothers, Alden and Clyde Cypert and one sister, Hailey Cypert.

Survivors include one son, Charles Pattillo of Brownwood; one daughter, Nancy Middlebrooks of Burnet; one sister, Kate McClung of Waco; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Robert Vasquez

Robert R. Vasquez, 49, of Odessa, formerly of Monahans, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at Alliance Hospital in Odessa.

Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16, at St. John’s Catholic Church with Father John Lucido officiating. Burial will be in Monahans Memorial Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 20, 1955, in Monahans, was a meter tech and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie C. Vasquez of Odessa; one son, Robbie Vasquez of Odessa; one daughter, Laura Tomei of Odessa; four brothers, Erasmo, Ernesto, Alfredo and Raul Vasquez of San Antonio; two sisters, Elfida Terrazas of San Antonio, Luisa Pena of Monahans and three grandchildren.

Maria N. Gavaldon, 81, of Pecos, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004.

Mass will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 5, 1922, in Barstow, was a housewife and a Catholic.

Survivors include her husband, Zeferino Gavaldon; two sons, Baldomero Gavaldon of Freeport, Tx., Ysidro Gavaldon of Pasadena; two daughters, Bertha Morales of Pecos, Manuela Gavaldon of Houston; two brothers, Doroteo Morales of El Paso, Geraldo Morales of Odessa; one sister, Brijida Esparza of Saragosa; 17 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Viola Brady

Viola K. Brady, 84, of Ft. Stockton, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, in Odessa.

Graveside services will be held at a 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16, at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Jim Miles officiating.

She was born May 22, 1920, in Pierce, Okla., was a retired restaurant owner/operator, was a VFW Ladies Auxiliary member and a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, had lived in Ft. Stockton since 1984 and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Ann Miler of Groesbeck, Glenda Jean McKinney of Boerne; one brother, Lewis John Simpson of Teague and several nieces and nephews.

Severa Rubio

Severa L. Rubio, 70, of Ft. Stockton, died Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 31, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Floro Hinacay officiating. Burial was in Ft. Stockton Catholic Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 8, 1954, in Saragosa, was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Rubio was preceded in death by her husband, Guillermo Rubio on Oct. 11, 2001 and one son, Luis Trejo in 1958.

Survivors include three sons, Jesus Trejo of Blith, Calif., Guillermo L. Rubio of Ft. Stockton, Demetrio L. Rubio of Ft. Stockon; one daughter, Linda Hernandez of Big Spring; two sisters, Luisa Gonzales of Ft. Stockton, Paula Avila of Pecos; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Jose Tercero

Jose M. Tercero, 85, of Odessa, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.

Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Pecos, with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 17, 1919, in Ft. Davis, was a carpenter contractor, served in the U.S. army during WWII, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the V.F.W.

Tercero was preceded in death by his wife, Concepsion and his parents, Navor and Maria Tercero.

Survivors include one son, Steve Tercero of Odessa; three daughters, Mary Botello of Orange Park, Fla., Priscilla Ely of Odessa, Rosa L. Delao of Odessa; two sisters, Fabiola Garcia of El Monte, Calif., Teresa Hernandez of Surprise, Ariz.; two brothers, Dolores “Lolo” Tercero of Surprise, Ariz., Ildelfonso “Poncho” Tercero of Prescott, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ruth Pierson Johnson

Ruth Pierson Johnson Decker died July 27, 2004, in Kingwood. Graveside services will be held in Pecos, Aug. 4.

She was born Nov. 5, 1910, in Braxton County, WV, Ruth began her teaching career at the age of 17, teaching in a one-room school in the mountains of rural West Virginia. Later, she attended Glenville Normal School (now Glenville State University), then returned to the mountains she loved to continue her teaching career. She was a dedicated and gifted teacher.

In 1951, her family moved to Pecos, TX, where her husband Barrett Johnson was a successful cotton farmer. Ruth was active in the school activities of her children, taught Bible Study, served as president of the Women’s Missionary Union, and was involved with community organizations. After retirement, Ruth and Barrett moved to Ft. Gibson, OK, where they enjoyed fishing, gardening and their grandchildren. Ruth relocated to an assisted living home in Tulsa, then to Kingwood two years ago.

She is predeceased by her parents, Allie and Henderson Pierson, six brothers, one sister, a grandson, Mark Johnson, her husband of 48 years, Barrett Johnson and husband Ross Decker.

Survivors include her children Steve (Sally) Johnson of Kingwood, TX, Phil (Mary) Johnson of Danville, CA, Barbara (Sam) Whisenhunt of Owasso, OK, and Cindy (Bernie) Frakes of Shalimar, FL.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Romeo Ybarra

Romeo M. Ybarra, 66, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, in Austin.

Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 6, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 2, 1938, in Pecos, was a plumber, a lifetime resident, served in the U.S. Army and was a Catholic.

Ybarra was preceded in death by George Ybarra, Claudia Ybarra, Ramon Ybarra and Gustavo Ybarra.

Survivors include his wife, Sulema F. Ybarra of Austin; his father, Natividad Machuca of Pecos; two sons, James Romeo Ybarra of San Diego, Calif., Edward “Ed” Ybarra of Pecos; four daughters, Juliet Gonzales of Anthony, N.M., Romelia Theresa Edwards of Austin, Faye Searsy of El Paso, Margaret Lozoya of Austin; two brothers, Gilbert “Gilly” Ybarra, Roque “Lulu” Ybarra of Pecos; one sister, Aurora Baca of Roswell, N.M. and seven grandchildren.
