Erasmo Valdez

Erasmo Valdez, 70, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 29, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born June 2, 1933, in Chihuahua, Mexico, was a road construction contractor, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Cervantes Valdez of Pecos; one son, Joel Valdez of Peocs; three daughters, Yolanda Valdez of Pecos, Sonia McGeorge of Alabama, Rosie Lujan of Midland; three brothers, Brijido, Loreto and Rafael Valdez of Chihuahua, Mexico; four sisters, Soledad, Amelia, Socorro and Maria Luisa Valdez of Chihuahua, Mexico; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jerome Campbell

Jerome Wesley Campbell, 71, of Ballinger, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, in Anchorage, Alaska.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the Avenue B. Church of Christ in Ballinger.

He was born Feb. 11, 1932, in Balmorhea, graduated from Pecos High School in 1950 and Texas Western College with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1954. He started working for the Texas Highway Department in 1954, before getting a job with the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs. In 1976, he moved back to Ballinger and began his own survey business. In 1990 he moved to Kodiak to work with the Coast Guard as a civilian employee and in 1999 started his current job with EDA through the Department of Commerce in Anchorage, Alaska. He was a past member and an Elder of Avenue B Church of Christ in Ballinger and South Anchorage Church of Christ.

Campbell was preceded in death by his mother, Winnie Mae Whitmire Campbell; his father, Virgil Moore Campbell and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Marie Campbell of Ballinger; four sons, Jerome Campbell Jr. of Abilene, Craig Campbell of Fayetteville, Ark., Kevin Campbell of Phoenix, Ariz., Thorne Campbell of San Angelo; one daughter, Shauna Campbell of Borger; one brother, Joe Campbell and five grandchildren.

Nell Harrison

Nell Betty Anderson Harrison, 88, of Corpus Christi, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clark Ford, assisted by Rev. Ernie Waggoner officiating. Burial will be in the Pioneer Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Pecos, was a retired rancher and business woman and a member of the First Christian Church in Corpus Christi.

Harrison was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Harrison and her husband, Dr. W. Oliver Harrison.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Harrison of Pecos and Midland, Bill Harrison of Corpus Christi; one daughter, Kathy Harrison of Fredericksburg; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services for Nell Betty Anderson Harrison, 88, who died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, in Fredericksburg are incomplete.

Lena Babb

Lena Lucia Jenia Babb, 82, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at Meadow Creek Nursing Facility of San Angelo.

A private memorial service and interment will be held at a later date, in the Babb family plot in the Langtry, Tx. cemetery.

She was born on Sept. 9, 1921, in Virginia, Minnesota, was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in San Angelo and had been married to her husband, Bennie W. Babb for almost 50 years, all of which were spent in West Texas.

Babb was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie W. Babb.

Survivors include one sister, Frieda Vito of Eveleth, Minnesota; one daughter, Rebecca Colgin of Midland; two sons, Bill Babb of Comstock, Tx., Kirby Babb of Seguin; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Ricky Don Oliver

Ricky Don Oliver, 43, of Pecos, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at his residence.

Graveside services were held at 4 p.m., today, at Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. J.E. McCormick.

He was born Feb. 23, 1960, in Brownfield, was a roughneck, and a Baptist.

Oliver was preceded in death by his sister, Lisa Willborn.

Survivors include his mother, Rita Weddle of Pecos; two daughters, Jenny Flores of Arlington, Tarrah Oliver of Richardson; one sister, Sheila Juarez of Pecos and numerous nieces and nephews.

Manuel Solis

Manuel Solis, 75, of Pecos, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at Reeves County Hospital.

Mass was held at noon today, Monday, Nov. 17, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born June 6, 1928, in Carmargo, Chih., Mexico, was a retired construction worker, had lived in Pecos for many years and was a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Solis of Pecos; two sons, Manuel Solis, Jr. and Eric Navarrette of Pecos; one brother, Moises Solis of Carmargo, Chih., Mexico; one grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Maria Santillanes

Maria Santillanes, 74, of Mecca, Calif., died Nov. 10, 2003.

Mass was held at 11 a.m., today, Friday, Nov. 14, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with burial in Coachella Valley Cemetery in Coachella, Calif.

She was born Jan. 26, 1929, in Loren, Tx., was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Survivors include her husband, Antonio Santillanes of Mecca, Calif.; six daughters, Manuela Lujan and Consuelo Santillanes Gil of Mecca; Socorro Santillanes of Juarez, Mexico, Maria Antonieta of Indio, Calif., Delia De La Hunt of Visalia, Calif., Emma Santillanes of Coachella, Calif.; four sons, Maurillo Lujan of Mecca, Ruben Santillanes of Indio, Ismael Santillanes of Carson City, Nev., Enrique Santillanes of Palm Springs, Calif.; two sisters, Luisa Ortega and Aurora Fuentes of Pecos; two brothers, Antonio Garcia of New Mexico, Guillermo Garcia of Pecos; 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Jesus Martinez Nichols, 79, of Pecos, died today, Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Vivian V. Fuentes, 79, of Pecos, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, in Pecos.

He was born Dec. 2, 1923, in Toyahvale, was a lifetime Pecos resident, a laborer and a Catholic.

Survivors include three sons, Ector, Oscar and Orlando Fuentes, all of Pecos; one daughter, Norma Chavez of Pecos; 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Maria Rayos

Maria M. Rayos, 69, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

She was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Sweetwater, was a homemaker, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include seven sons, Oscar Valenzuela of San Antonio, Hector Rayos of Odessa, Louis Rayos of Pecos, Michael, Lupe, Jesus and Willie Rayos, all of Midland; five daughters, Lupe Ornelas of Odessa, Irma Rayos, Rachel Rayos Barreno, Criselda Rayos of Pecos, Ida Torres of Crane; one brother, Martin Minjarez of Odessa and 35 grandchildren.

Myrtle Strong

Myrtle Strong, 90, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Reeves County Hospital.

Services are set for 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 14, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Darrell Burton officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born July 30, 1913, in New Port, Ark., was a waitress and a member of the Pentecostal church.

Strong was preceded in death by her former husband, Charles Perrymen and her husband Jimmie Strong.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Perrymen of Grand Prarie, George T. Perrymen of Plainview, Terry Strong of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Tenna Strong Simmons of Houston, Delight Perrymen Farmer of Pecos, Barbara Perrymen Dugan of Pasadena; one brother, Delmer Farmer of Searcy, Ark.; one sister, Gloria Martin of Texarkana, Tx.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.

Lillie Ruth Knox

Lillie Ruth Knox was the eldest daughter born to Raymond and Ruby Zeno Knox.

During her career, Lillie spent years breaking down the barriers that have impeded the progress, growth and success of businesses owned and operated by women and people of color. In her corporate career at Southwestern Bell/SBC, Lillie rose through the ranks from beginnings as a telephone operator to being asked to implement Southwestern Bell's Minority/Women Business Enterprise Development Program in Texas. From 1992 until her retirement from SBC in 2000, she led SBC's Supplier Diversity efforts providing leadership within her company and in the community to create and develop opportunities for non-traditional suppliers. While she helped SBC become a recognized leader in Supplier Diversity, she mentored other companies with their efforts through her service on the Boards of Directors of organizations such as the Women's Business Council Southwest, the Dallas/Ft. Worth Minority Business Development Council, the Central and South Texas Minority Business Council, and the National Association of Black Telecommunications Professionals.

Lillie's long time passions included cultural preservations and education. Her leadership roles with the African American Museum, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, and the United Negro College Fund so evidenced by her commitment to these causes.

Lillie was a committed member of the St. Luke "Community" United Methodist Church where one of her passions was Bible Study. Lillie successfully completed Disciple I and was attending Disciple II when her health failed. As she ministered to others in the final stages of her illness her solid faith was her greatest comfort.

Lillie was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Knox and sister, Jewel Lean Green. She is survived by her mother, Ruby Faye Zeno; two sisters, Laverne Williams (Bubba) of Pecos, Texas and Jewel Dean Gransberry (Governor) of Houston, Texas ; three nieces Nadya Gransberry (Carl), Lori Mathis (Claude), and NaTasha Gransberry; one nephew, Lawrence Williams, Jr. (Karla); two grandnieces, one grandnephew, and a host of other family members and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Luke "Community" United Methodist Church located at 5710 East R.L. Thornton Freeway.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the following organizations: American Cancer Society (Renal Cell Carcinoma Research), African American Museum, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, or St. Luke's "Community" United Methodist Church.

Elvira Rodriguez

Elvira Rodriguez, 79, of Pecos, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Mass was held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 10, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Balmorhea with burial in Balmorhea Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 29, 1924, in Balmorhea, was a longtime resident, a homemaker and a Catholic.

Rodriguez was preceded in death by one daughter, Priscilla Rodriguez.

Survivors include two sons, Enrique Rodriguez of Pecos, Robert Rodriguez of Las Vegas, Nev.; five daughters, Velma Minjarez, Faye Valles of Pecos, Edna Martinez, Diana Rayos of Las Vegas, N.M., Betty Evaro of Hobbs, N.M.; one brother, Pedro Chavez of Balmorhea; two sisters, Enedina Lozano, Jesusita Alvarez of Balmorhea; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Stephen Perkins

Stephen Jefferson Perkins, 55, of Alpine, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m., today, Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Gesslin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. John Carnagey officiating.

He was born Aug. 29, 1948, in Denton, began his career as a sheriff's deputy in McKinney, received his Registered Nursing degree from Grayson County College in 1976, taught LVN classes at Odessa College, started a Med-Aid class for high school students in Alaska where he worked in Point Barrow, Alaska. He served in the U.S. Army, and was a Detention Officer and a Registered Nurse for the Brewster County Jail, before an accident there caused a disability.

Perkins was preceded in death by a sister, Becki Cryder.

Survivors include his wife, Melba Gonzales Perkins; three children, Stephen L., James Christopher and Stacie, all of Alpine; one sister, Pam Ziolkowski of Plano; one brother, James Perkins of Denver and two grandchildren.

Tony Gonzalez

Tony Gonzalez, 36, of Coyanosa, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, in Amarillo.

Mass was held at 10 a.m., today, Monday, Nov. 10, at Isidro Catholic Church in Coyanosa. Burial will be in Monahans Memorial Cemetery.

He was born March 20, 1967, in Pecos, was a helicopter aviation mechanic and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Nora Gonzalez of Coyanosa; three daughters, Andrea, Nicole and Marina Gonzalez of Coyanosa; his father, Teleforo Gonzalez of Coyanosa; four brothers, Teleforo Gonzalez of Kermit, Genaro Gonzalez of Ft. Stockton, Jesse Gonzalez of San Antonio, Albert Gonzalez of Coyanosa; four sisters, Berta Gonzalez, Maria Castro, Evangelina and Guadalupe Gonzalez of Coyanosa.

Heather Jasso, 21, of Monahans, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, in Lubbock.

She was born Sept. 10, 1982, in Odessa, was a student and a Catholic.

Jasso was preceded in death by her grandmother, Hilaria Jasso in 1978.

Survivors include her father, Ruben Jasso and Susan of Midland; her mother, Lori Jasso and J.T. Asbury IV of Monahans; her grandparents, Alex and Angelita Salcido of Pecos; Maria Jasso of Barstow; one sister, Christie Asbury of Monahans.

Natividad Gonzales

Natividad "Nati" Gonzales, 78, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, in Odessa.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, at St. Catherine Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Big Spring, was a laborer, had served in the U.S. Navy, was a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Gonzales was preceded in death by one son, Esteban Mark Gonzales.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Dominguez Gonzales of Odessa; one son, Bobby Gonzales of Pecos; one daughter, Hazel Herrera of Pecos; one brother, Fermin Gonzales of Big Spring; three sisters, Pascuala Ruiz of Coahoma, Martha Arispe of San Spring, Tx., Mary Rodriguez of Big Spring; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Harold Williams, 85, of Toyah, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, in Midland.

He was born Oct. 4, 1918, in Fletcher, Okla., was a farmer and a lifetime Toyah resident.

Rebecca Bates Crouch, 46, of Albuquerque, N.M., died Oct. 8, 2003, in Albuquerque.

A memorial service will be held at Chaparral Village Cemetery at a later date.

She was born Dec. 7, 1956, in Fort Worth, was a nurse and an U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include one daughter, Cassie Bennett of Albuquerque, N.M.; her mother, Mary G. Bates of Pecos; her father, Robert I. Crouch of Chaparral Village and one brother, Gene Crouch of Oro Grande, N.M.

Enrique Avalos, Jr., 41, of Saragosa, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, in Saragosa.

He was born May. 2, 1962, in Nieves, Zacateca, Mexico, was a laborer, a lifetime Saragosa resident and a Catholic.
