Jesus PrietoJesus Jacquez Prieto, 71, of Marfa, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, as the result of a motor vehicle accident on U.S. 90 in Marfa.A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 24, at the church with Rev. Rick Ruiz officiating. Burial will be in Merced Cemetery. Prieto was born May 29, 1929 in Ruidosa. He was a long-time Marfa resident, worked with the City of Marfa Utilities Department for 10 years before retirement and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Lilia Vasquez Prieto of Marfa; one son, Joe Franco of Pecos; one daughter, Rosa P. Melendez of Marfa; one brother, Francisco Prieto of Fort Stockton; five sisters, Lucila Gatlan and Dominga Escajeda of Midland, Lupe Prieto and Ana Montferrand of Fort Stockton and Juanita Magallanez of Hobbs, N.M. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Robert HayesRobert Scott Hayes, 69, of Pecos, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Odessa Medical Center.Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Joe Fields officiating. He was born June 3, 1931, in Pecos, was an Army veteran who had served in the Korean War, a retired farmer, rancher and dispatcher, contract pumper, a lifelong Pecos resident and a Presbyterian. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Prentice and Dennis Hayes; three sisters, Josephine Hayes Frye, Maxy Jane Hayes and Gracie Haynes Wilkins. Survivors include his wife, Jane Charlene Fletcher Hayes of Pecos; one brother, Dick Hayes of Barstow; three sisters, Adabelle Collins of Barstow, Anne Fleming of Midland and Kitty Reece of Abilene. Pecos Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Gayle BaizeGayle W. Baize, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at his home.Services were held Wednesday at the Parker Funeral Home Chapel with Paige Baize officiating and Arlon Baize assisting. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery at Tuxedo. Baize was born in Gatesville. He had lived in Coleman for six years and moved there from Lake Proctor. He was a farmer and a retired superintendent of Bridge Construction, a former Pecos resident, a Church of Christ member and was a board member of the community center at Lake Coleman. He was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in Granbury and married Earlene Rorie in 1939. Survivors include his wife, Earlene Baize of Lake Coleman; one daughter, Linda Merlene Gattis of Abilene; one son, Van Baize of Bowie; one brother, Novel Baize of Baird; one sister, Grace Box of Pecos; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Barlow, 80, of Marfa, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, in a Las Cruces, N.M., Care Center.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 11, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Lloyd Conner officiating. Burial will follow at Marfa Cemetery. She was born in Ozark, Ark., on May 13, 1920 and married Riley M. Barlow on Sept. 2, 1948. They lived in Marfa twice during Mr. Barlow's Border Patrol career, moving there a second time in 1959. Barlow was a long time member of the First Baptist Church and was actively involved in many community clubs and organizations, including Order of the Eastern Star. Later in her life when she began to lose her sight, she began a life-long dream to paint and became an accomplished artist with numerous art exhibits in the West Texas area. Survivors include three daughters, Ann Barlow of Las Cruces, N.M., Karen Wells of Reston, Va. and Kathy Redford of Shrewsbury, N.J.; one son, Mike Barlow of Auburn, Wash.; two brothers, James Buchanan of Austin, Mickey Buchanan of Lampasas; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials made be made to the Marfa Public Library or First Baptist Church of Marfa, or National Alzheimer's Foundation, 100 N. Lara, 68, of Pecos, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Reeves County Hospital.A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel. Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. He was born Aug. 27, 1932, in Mertzon, was retired from Pecos Valley Southern Railroad and a Catholic. Survivors include his wife, Albina Lara of Pecos; daughter, Yolanda and her husband, Israel Rubio of Pecos, grandchildren Senovia and Austin Rubio; daughter, Lucy and husband Manuel Gonzales, grandchildren, Lomas and Lara Gonzales; one brother, Mike Lara of Pecos; six sisters, Helen Tapia, Irene Licon, Lola Garcia of Pecos, Sophia Devault of Atwater, Calif., Otelia Balles of Los Banos, Calif. and Margie Adams of Houston. Harlos, 82, of Midland, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Midland.Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery. She was born Aug. 8, 1917, in Lola, was a retired caregiver, had lived in Midland for eight years and was a member of the Lutheran Church. Paula PallanPaula Pallan, 80, of Midland, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at her home.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5, at San Juan Catholic Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery. She was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Presidio, married Leonor Y. Pallan, Sr., in April of 1940 and the couple made their home in Pecos. She moved to Midland in 1976, after Mr. Pallan's death in 1974 and was a member of San Juan Catholic Church. Survivors include her companion, Ray Mata of Midland; five sons, Tito Payan of Midland, Pete Pallan of Camarillo, Calif., Lupe Pallan of Odessa, Arturo Pallan of Pecos and Sammy Payan of Crane; one daughter, Susie Stringer of Plano; three brothers, Bruno Lara of Casa Grande, Ariz., Santiago Lara of Pecos and Ramon Lara of Bakersfield, Calif.; four sisters, Cruz Lara of Casa Grande, Ariz., Rosa Levario of Pecos, Manuela Monreal of Casa Grande, Ariz. and Juana Reyes of Salinas, Calif.; 38 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Jimmy WhiteJimmy White, 67, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at Reeves County Hospital.Services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Gene Lindsey officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. He was born April 23, 1933, in Livingston, was United States Army Veteran, retired, had lived in Pecos since 1980 and a Baptist. Survivors include his mother, Mary White Warren of Pecos. Pecos Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
